Reclaiming Rest: Why Slowing Down Is the Most Powerful Form of Self-Care
Share
In a world that glorifies “busy,” slowing down can almost feel rebellious. We celebrate long to-do lists, packed schedules, and showing up for everyone — even when we’re running on empty.
But here’s the truth I’ve been learning (and maybe you have too): rest is not a reward. It’s a requirement.
When we give ourselves permission to rest, we are reminding our bodies and minds that they deserve care, not just productivity. Rest can look like a nap, a slow shower, a few deep breaths between tasks, or simply sitting in silence while your tea cools. It’s not about doing nothing — it’s about doing what your soul needs to recover.
As moms, and especially as Black women, we’ve been conditioned to be everything for everyone — strong, dependable, and self-sacrificing. But strength doesn’t mean exhaustion. Sometimes, the most powerful thing you can do is pause.
Here’s your gentle reminder:
🌿 You don’t have to earn rest.
🌿 You’re allowed to slow down.
🌿 You can choose peace, even when the world feels loud.
This week, I invite you to find one small way to rest on purpose. Maybe it’s a quiet five minutes before the kids wake up, journaling before bed, or lighting your favorite candle and just breathing deeply.
Inside the Haven will always be your reminder that rest is sacred — and you are worthy of it.
Take your time, move slowly, and remember: the world can wait.
With love,
